No one knows me...

Aidan came home from school on Friday after his field trip and told me that I needed to go to the next field trip that he has. I asked him, "Why?" and his response was, "No one knows who you are!!" I laughed so hard! Sad huh?

Come to find out he has been chosen to escort our mayor through his school next Wednesday. I'm going to go and take pictures of them. I have no idea why the mayor is coming or why Aidan was chosen for this but he's got an awesome teacher and I'm sure it's something she's put together.

No rechargeable batteries this time~!

Karol's 79!

My Karol's 79 today! I can't believe it. She is absolutely amazing and I wouldn't be able to make it here at work without her.

Karol is here with me Tuesday through Friday and works the same hours as me. She not only works in my office but also helps the Birth Center and Medical Records.

Karol is a wonderful friend and confidant. She knows everything about me whether or not I tell her. She is famous for listening in to my phone calls so if you call me at work just know that Karol is listening! It's okay though, she's been there for me through some rough times.

We are celebrating her wonderful day in a couple of hours but ssshhh, it's a surprise! For the time being, Happy Birthday Karol - I love you!

Black sneakers

Complete and utter defiance! And at the age of 9! Ha! And he probably never thought I would notice – he has no idea what his mom used to be like as a young girl.

I have this rule that black high top tennis shoes are not to be worn with shorts. Call me weird but I just don’t think they look right, especially with black socks. Tristan has this thing about attaching himself to one pair of shoes. He may have 5 pairs but when there is a pair that he deems “the perfect ones” he ignores all of the others. So much so, that he ends up growing out of them before actually wearing them.

Anyway, last week was the first week that we had nice enough weather to wear shorts. Tristan has been waiting for this and couldn’t be happier. I specifically said, “If you wear shorts you must wear the white tennis shoes.” Bummed look on his face but he agrees. (The white shoes are $50 brand new shoes but he’s managed to scuff the front of one of them playing soccer and now doesn’t like them so much.)

I greet them from school last week and immediately look down to see white legs, black socks, and black high top shoes. Wow! I told him to take them off and he lost the shoes. He’s now had to suffer for five days with his white shoes and he hasn’t even worn shorts. The coincidence of it all! He will get the shoes back eventually but for right now he thinks they have gone to Africa with the others we sent to the children there.

I found this picture below and it might be why he sees nothing wrong with the black shoes and socks with shorts. Bummer! Maybe I'm wrong, what do you think?

Poetry Readings

I’m so frustrated that I don’t have a picture to put up with this post. It’s not that I forgot the camera; my husband insists on using rechargeable batteries but I don’t think that they work as well. My camera would not turn on today!!! That really bites.

Anyway, I was invited to a poetry reading in Tristan’s class and I’m so glad that I went. I normally worry about missing work but I didn’t care today. (Come to find out I didn’t miss much anyway, only 5 babies were born yesterday and its 11:30 with everything caught up. Yes!) Tristan was the eighth student to go (he made sure to tell me what place he signed up for) and he did really well. He is the only one who forgot to introduce himself though. His poems were good, pretty generic though, mostly about soccer, dogs, and rap music.

A couple of lines from the other kids stood out to me. One girl mentioned global warming and how she wished it would end! Another boy dedicated his poems to his parents. He said that even though his mom and dad aren’t together, they are still friends. This made my eyes water, his mom was there also and she cried for a good 10 minutes.

The one that really stabbed at me was the one little boy who at about line 4 of his first poem said, “I wonder why it was an accident that I was born?” Woah. Not sure if it was the realization that at age 9 he is asking that or that I’ve possibly said that in my own life. Not a lot of pregnancies are planned but I do make sure to talk about Aidan’s as a “surprise” not an accident.

My inspiration to get to work.

This is my inspiration every morning on my drive to work and yes, I realize how lucky I am! I remind myself of this all the time.

I think that a lot of people that live here are so used to their surroundings or get caught up in their lives that they forget to look up. Even though I've almost been here for 13 years (Can you believe that? I'm shocked!) I remind myself to look up and see the beauty of the mountains. I don't think we will always live here and I want to soak it all in.

Ouch!!

Yep, it hurts. This is what a weekend of soccer at the parks will do to you! The actual collarbone area is the worst!

The boys had a great weekend though. Tristan played first and his team lost 1-0. Tristan was the goalie during the second half and blocked every shot from the other team. He had a shutout! We walked away from that game feeling like winners despite the loss. I was so proud.

Aidan had a double header. We got to the first game and he immediately complained of a sore throat. He didn't have a sore throat but was nervous and didn't want to play without Tristan. He had lost that "security" he's had lately. He hung in there and ended up winning the game for his team. It's true, not boasting just because he's my child, okay maybe I am. They did win 4-3 and he scored 3 goals in the game. The winning goal was his! We were so happy.

We then had to go to another park for his second game. They had one hour between games and were exhausted by the time we got started. Needless to say we lost big time but Aidan managed to score the one and only goal for his team.

Sunday was another day of soccer but it was practices. I covered up completely for these. The weather was nice but I had on long sleeves, pants and tennis shoes. I've learned my lesson, this time.

Spring time in Colorado

Can you believe what we woke up to this morning? Wow! And we had a two hour delay for school. The boys were very happy! Honestly, I was happy also. I went back to bed after checking the news at 5 am and was able to get some much needed rest.

I don't mind getting snow. Even though I've lived here for a long time, I'm not sick of it. The natives constantly complain about snow and cold weather, yearning for summer. I've had enough of summer growing up in Texas and I never find myself looking forward to that. I would like to see some green grass and flowers though.

It's funny because the boys have lived here all of their lives and they hate our winters and snow! I think if we could move to Texas they would do it in a heartbeat.

Yep, he should be hiding his face!

What a dumb ass! Carmello was arrested yesterday morning for DUI on our interstate here! You know that he has plenty of friends and money to take care of transportation issues. Poor decisions like this make me want to put up all of the #15 stuff we have. I've already had to retire the Michael Vick jersey and didn't want to have to do that again. Bummer, it's just sad for the boys.

The Nuggets just made it to the playoffs last night also. We are excited but I don't want to have to hear about this over and over again. I'm hoping it'll probably just blow over since it's his first offense.

The funny stuff about it is that his fiancee refused to come and pick him up from the station so the police officers kindly gave him a ride home and parked his car in the police parking lot for him. Now they are being investigated for going above and beyond the normal procedures for this type of incident. If you ask me, I'm loving his fiancee right now!

Funny things

Just a couple of little funny things for you guys:

Charlie” is still a huge hit at our house. If you haven’t checked out the youtube video for “Charlie bites finger”, you need to. The boys are constantly mimicking this and they try to use the accent to do it. Too funny! I have to admit I fell into it this weekend also. I wanted to make Aidan laugh during his soccer game. He was exhausted and there weren’t any extra players to give him a break. At half time, I went over to him and told him that there was a “Charlie” on the opposing team; he better watch out for him. Of course I had to use the accent for him to get it. Tristan happens to have a Charlie on his team also so this thing just keeps going and going. I feel sorry for anyone with that name right now.

A couple of nights ago I heard Aidan in the bathroom weighing himself on the scale. When he came out I asked him what he was doing. He told me he was “heavying himself”. I asked again, “What were you doing?” He then says he was “lightening himself”. He couldn’t think of the word “weighing” for the life of him. I never corrected him either.

This weekend’s soccer recap – Aidan won his first game of the season. It helps a lot that Tristan played for his team as a guest. But they both scored a goal which was the highlight! Tristan lost his game, 1st loss of the season for him. He did score the only points for his team though. Not enough of a highlight though, he hates to lose.

Our schedules

Haven't had much to blog about this week. We are getting accustomed to the soccer season and all that comes with it. Here's a sample of what our week consists of:

Monday's - Off, woohoo!!!!!
Tuesday's - Aidan's practice from 4:30 - 6 p.m. (Tristan joins in also)
Wednesday's - Soccer clinic for both of them from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Thursday's - Aidan's practice 4:30-6, Tristan's practice 5-6:30 p.m.
Friday's - Aidan's tutoring 4:30-5:30 p.m. Bible study at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday's - Soccer games at various times, church at 6 p.m.
Sunday's - Pride Soccer Academy for the next 5 weeks, 3 - 4:30 p.m.

Crazy huh? It's a bit much I know, Josh thinks that I've over committed myself. Really though, Wednesday's are optional, I've paid for one month and if we are too tired or they don't enjoy it we can quit after April. Sunday's activity will end in 5 weeks and it's an awesome opportunity for them to possibly get chosen for the "Academy Team". The top 12 players from each age group are chosen to play on the team for a tournament. Exciting!

Anyway, that's what's up with us!

NKOTB

Oh my gosh! Can you believe that they are reuniting, making new music, and going on tour? I was such a huge fan in middle school. While my best friends loved Bon Jovi, I loved New Kids on the Block. I had their t-shirt, jewelry, music, videos, and my room was plastered with pictures of them. My favorites were the guys in the pic on the far right, Jordan and Danny. I think I remember Shelly liked Jonathan, Jordan's brother.

Here's proof:

And here's a pic of the shirt (and some attitude):

I will go ahead and admit that once their new music comes out, I will download it to my mp3 player!

Teenagers

The boys have been exposed to YouTube. I can't believe it! We have a 9th grader watching them this week for their last couple days of Spring Break. I guess she showed them it yesterday and they are hooked. It's all they want to look at on the computer. It even beat out a game I had downloaded.

I have to admit that there is some funny stuff on there though. They are pretty much checking out funny kids and sports stuff. (I made sure of this!) There's one video that I had to watch with them and continued to hear Aidan mimic all night long. If you look - it's about a little boy and his brother Charlie. Charlie bites his finger. If you search for "Charlie bites finger" it will come up. They think it's hilarious!

I was a you tube virgin myself until yesterday. I thought that it might be something that I could get addicted to and God knows I have plenty of things that I'm addicted to and I don't need another.

Beckham fever

Wow, I haven't had a crush in a while but I find myself smiling anytime I see a picture of him. I didn't jump on the Beckham bandwagon when he came to Major League Soccer last year; although we did go to the game in Denver to see him, which he unfortunately didn't attend. Anyway, I think I'm on it now!

I love his smile! It seem so warm and genuine. Posh is one lucky woman!

Tristan is wearing his cleats this season also! My friend Shannon, another mom from the team, is calling him Beckham Jr. Too funny!

I've got a collage of him at work now too. This is bad!
